2018 Wedding Trends

Pantone Color of the Year 2018 – Ultra Violet

Ultra Violet, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018 is a dramatic and thoughtful shade of purple that’s been trending year-round.

Deep purples have long been a symbol of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. “It communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” (Pantone)

“Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality.” (Pantone)

Jet Fresh Flower Distributors has many different flower options to achieve Pantone-perfection this wedding season. From dark purple to blue flowers and coordinating lavenders, there are many floral options to create beautiful Pantone designs.

Black and Copper Preserved Roses

Black and copper accents are being incorporated more in weddings for 2018. From gowns and accessories to decor, the options to incorporate black and copper are endless.

Jet Fresh Flower Distributors has black and copper preserved roses in different sizes for your event needs. More natural-looking than silk, preserved roses are a great alternative because these are real roses which have been carefully preserved to last at least one-year or longer. These decorative accents can also be kept as keepsakes and favors.

Black and Copper preserved flowers are also available in hydrangeas. View our new Preserved Flower catalog for more information.

Single-Stem Bouquets

Less is more when it comes to this 2018 wedding trend.

According to TheKnot.com, single-stem bouquets are making a comeback.

When opting for this idea, they suggest choosing sculptural stems, like an oversized tropical leaf, calla lily, or a large-headed focal flower to achieve the maximum effect without appearing too simple.

Pairing dramatic single stems with a coordinating flower or filler completes the single-stem bouquet look. In this image, the designer used a single stem of green Monstera as the backdrop with Cymbidium Orchids and paired them with a whimsical green filler flower.

Single-Stem Bouquet Inspiration

Jet Fresh Flower Distributors has a wide variety of focal flowers that are perfect for single-stem bouquets.

Popular wedding flowers such as dahlias, peonies, garden roses and hydrangea are great options for a simple-yet-elegant single-stem bouquet. Proteas have also become increasingly popular in the last year.

Floral Design Trends 2018

Earlier this year we shared four floral design trends for 2018 according to Kristine Kratt, AIFD, PFCI of Schaffer Designs.

Now that wedding season is in full-effect, let’s recap them.

Moody Blooms

“Moody Blooms is inspired by the romantic melancholy of dark and saturated hues,” according to Kratt.

This dramatic palette evokes feelings of comfort with a soothing darkness that calms and warms the soul.

Moody Blooms is a fashion-forward trend adding beauty and elegance with deep, rich colors and decorative furnishings. It combines “opulent” textures and florally elements with loosely gathered florals and opened blossoms.

Flower inspiration: Cotinus, Garden roses, Ranunculus, Anemones, Hydrangea, Scabiosa and Peony.

Elements and textures: Copper & bronze metallic; Insects & Birds; Tapestry & Brocade Velvet; Pearls; Paisley; and Lace.

Inhabit

“Inhabit focuses on environment and how we dwell within it,” according to Kratt.

Inspired by the “ever-growing botanical trend” for the home, Inhabit takes a minimal approach which balances nature with raw, natural elements and wild flowers, plants and herbs.

Floral patterns, painted prints and nostalgic elements are all welcomed, creating a modern environment that “cultivates living plants and people living.”

Flower inspiration: Ranunculus, Garden roses, Dahlias, Peony, Tulips, Seeded eucalyptus, Ferns and Larkspur.

Elements and textures: Watercolor patterns; Ferns & Plants; Floral prints; Rose Gold; Denim; Cork & wood vessels; Moss and Terrariums.

Wanderlust

“Wanderlust is inspired by modern global fusion” according to Kratt.

It blends earthy neutrals and decorative accents from cultures around the world and exotic travel destinations. Rich and vibrant hues define the location, and retro stylings with traditional imagery all come together to “create a modern urban tribe.”

Flower inspiration: Protea, Tropical leaves, Cactus, Grevillea, Zinnia, Eryngium and Leucadendron.

Elements and textures: Baskets; Woven fabrics; Terra Cotta; Blue & white pottery; Geometric prints; Hand glazed pottery;  Copper & gold.

Happify

“Happify is a bright leap into individuality, technology and imagination,” according to Kratt. With technology being at the forefront in our daily lives, we’re developing a new way to perceive our surroundings visually.

Contrast plays a major role for combining slick textures and bright colors with clean, minimal shapes. The essence of fantasy and “augmented reality” are captured with bright neon accents, organic hues and oily iridescence.

Flower Inspiration: Gerberas, Sunflowers, Succulents, Palms, Liatris, Gladiolas and Orchids.

Elements and textures: Shiny finishes; Chalky matte ceramic; Mirrored surfaces; Geometric patterns; Neon and LED; Iridescent finishes; Silver & gold metallic.

Trending Greenery 2018

Along with the floral design trends for 2018, Kratt also announced the trending greenery for 2018.

Many of these varieties have been reigning over the wedding circuit for the last few years — eucalyptus and dusty miller — although we’ve seen a recent jump in floral arrangements featuring tropicals such as monstera and palm leaves.
